Chapter 6
CV, gate & sync
Four CV and gate pairs, analogue sync in and out, and calibration.
CV and gate outputs
Four CV outputs, 0 to +10 V at 1 V/oct, so ten octaves of range. Four gate outputs, 5 V or 10 V. All 3.5 mm TS. Source: Official
Gate level, Sync In/Out PPQN and the Sync In start source are in the sequencer settings. Source: Official
Sequencer settings: gate and sync
In ZAQ mode, hold 59EDIT/GLOBAL and press 61STORE. Keys 5–8 glow blue. Press a key, turn SELECT to change it and press SELECT to confirm; 60EXIT leaves. Source: Official
Key combinations
- Hold 59EDIT/GLOBAL + 61STORE
- Opens the sequencer settings.ZAQ mode
Which track drives which output
The manual doesn’t say which track drives which CV/Gate pair, and the per-track output setting (Global 41/43/45/47) has no CV option. Source: Official
CV calibration
The unit is factory calibrated, so you shouldn’t need to do this. If it drifts, Settings key 8 starts a calibration routine that needs a voltmeter able to read millivolts. The factory values live in a reserved area of external flash. Source: Official
Starting it
- Hold 1ZAQ/CTRL until it and keys 5–12 glow blue.
- Press 8DELAY (key 8). The display shows
MIN. - Connect the meter to CV 1 and follow the manual’s procedure, output by output.
Analogue sync and external clock
SYNC IN and SYNC OUT are 3.5 mm TRS: tip carries clock, ring carries start/stop. Set Global encoder 26 to Sync to follow the input. Source: Official Common rates for each setting:
| PPQN | Typical use |
|---|---|
| 1 | Quarter-note pulses |
| 2 | Korg Volca and Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator sync |
| 4 | Sixteenth-note clock, a common Eurorack rate |
| 24 | Roland DIN Sync rate (needs a TRS-to-DIN adapter) |
| 48 | Older Korg DIN sync gear |
For external MIDI clock the sequencer expects Start or Continue, then clock, then Stop. 68PLAY/STOP works only on the internal clock. Source: BCR2000 Zaq
