Chapter 3

Tracks and mixing

Tracks are modules: select, mute and solo them, route their audio and MIDI, and record stems.

Tracks are modules

In Drambo a track isn’t a fixed channel — it’s a module, the most important one. A Track module has a rack inside it for your instrument or effect, and it is what lets that rack receive notes from the sequencer and launcher. Every track is equal: any of them can hold a synth, a sampler, an effect chain or just an Audio Unit plugin with no patching at all.

The tracks all live inside one more track, the Main track, which you reach from the Main pad. Its rack works as the project’s mixer and a general performance controller, where you can route MIDI and audio between tracks. Every Track module in the Main rack appears as a track below it, with its own pad.

Add a track

  1. Tap the Main track pad.
  2. Tap + and choose Track from the library (it’s under GENERATOR / DEVICE).
  3. The new track gets its own pad. Tap the pad to open its rack and start filling it.

Worth knowing

3.2Basics

What a new project contains

Start a project from the default template and the Main rack holds eight ordinary tracks, two send tracks and a Master track. Their pads read Main, 1–8, A, B and Master. Each ordinary track’s three output knobs send it to the Master and to sends A and B, so an effect you put on a send track can be fed from every track.

Because the sends and the Master are ordinary tracks too, they hold racks you can fill with effects, and you can add more tracks whenever you need them. Templates covers starting from other templates, such as MIDI Sequencer, and saving your own.

3.3Basics

Working with track pads

The row of track pads is the fastest way around a project. The current track has a highlighted outline, and its rack and clip are the ones on screen.

Gestures & keys

Tap TRACK PAD
Makes that track the current one.
Double-tap TRACK PAD
Opens the track’s presets and settings menu.
Hold TRACK PAD + TRACK PAD
Copies the first track onto the second.

Swiping a pad mutes or solos its track — see Mute and solo.

  • To copy a whole track, hold its track pad and tap the pad of the track you want to copy to. A menu offers to duplicate the rack alone or the rack with its sequences. A few users in the thread couldn’t get it to work on their iPads, so it may not behave everywhere. via BeepStreet forums: Copy one track to another?, May 2026

A 27-minute start on the current app from October 2026, and the introduction the official docs recommend. Its chapters cover templates, the tempo menu, the rack, the step sequencer, clip view and the pads’ TRK, PAT and INS modes.

3.4Basics

Mute and solo

Muting and soloing work from the track pads, and two track settings decide exactly what they do.

Gestures & keys

Swipe up on TRACK PAD
Solos the track.
Swipe down on TRACK PAD
Mutes the track.
Tap TRACK PAD
Mutes or unmutes the track. With MUTE on

To clear every mute and solo at once, hold UNDO and tap MUTE (see UNDO, and clearing things with it).

Track settings that shape muting and soloing

Solo group
Puts the track in group A, B or C. Each group solos independently, so if your sends and Master are in group B and the rest in group A, soloing a drum track doesn’t silence its reverb.Range A, B, C
Mute style
Audio silences the track’s output. MIDI stops the sequencer’s notes reaching the track instead, so its audio isn’t cut off.Range Audio, MIDI
Enabled
Switches the track on or off — the same thing as muting it.

Daddy Long Les

The second part of the October 2026 series: a solo and mute tip, extending, duplicating and looping bars, an empty clip to silence a track, more on the INS button, what sits at the right of each track, and the Morph crossfader.

3.5Basics

See every track at once

Tap MULTI-RACK on the top bar to see every track’s rack side by side. Each column shows the track’s three output knobs (Master, A and B to begin with), its pan and its mute and solo buttons, which makes this the closest thing Drambo has to a mixing desk.

The meters at the right end of the top bar show the output level and how hard your device is working. If the CPU meter is running high, Polyphony, stereo and CPU explains the usual fix.

Track settings

Each track has a settings menu. Open it by tapping the header of its Track module (in the Main rack, or the column at the left of the track’s own rack), or by double-tapping its pad. Scroll to see everything.

General

Name

Presets

Mute style
Whether muting silences the audio or stops the notes. See Mute and solo.Range Audio, MIDI

Below these come the AUDIO and MIDI sections, covered in Route a track’s audio and A track’s MIDI settings.

Route a track’s audio

Every track has one audio source and three destinations, set in the AUDIO part of its menu. The three destinations are the three knobs at the right of the track’s rack — Master, A and B in a new project — so each knob is a send level to whatever you’ve chosen.

Parameters

Audio from
Where the track’s rack gets audio: the track’s own input, one of the nine mix busses, or an external audio input from your interface.
Audio to 1, 2, 3
The three targets the track sends to, one per output knob: another track’s input, one of the nine mix busses, or an external audio output.
Receives audio
Always, or Active track so the track only listens to its source while it’s the current track — handy when you use Drambo to process an outside signal and switch effects by switching tracks.Range Always, Active track

A track’s MIDI settings

The MIDI part of the track menu decides which incoming MIDI reaches the track from outside Drambo — a keyboard, a controller or another app — and how it treats overlapping notes.

Parameters

Channel
The MIDI channel the track takes external notes from, or any channel.Range ANY, 1–16
Note
Lets only one chosen note through, so a single pad on a controller can play one track.Range ANY or one note
Receives MIDI
Active track only lets external MIDI in while this is the current track, so your keyboard follows whichever track you select. Always and Never do what they say.Range Active track, Always, Never
Retrigger
When on, a new note that overlaps the last one restarts the gate, which suits drums. Turn it off for glides and legato lines, where the gate should stay open.Range On, Off

For glide, turning Retrigger off is the first of two steps — see Glide and portamento.

Record stems

Stems recording captures the audio of the tracks you choose, ready to take into another app. Each Track module has a tape symbol that marks it for recording; to begin with, only the Master track is marked, so a plain recording captures the whole mix.

  1. Tap the tape symbol on each track you want as a stem.
  2. Tap STEMS on the top bar to arm recording.
  3. Press PLAY to record, and PLAY again to stop. Tapping it while the transport is running also disarms recording.
